The Carbon Price Calculator and the effect of a price on carbon
With the carbon price now law, households will finally be able to weigh up their own costs, financial support and potential savings with an independent online calculator and website - yourcarbonprice.com.au - launched by consumer advocate CHOICE, the Australian Council of Social Service (representing low income households) and policy research organisation The Climate Institute.
Also available is CSIRO-AECOM research which underpins the figures used in the yourcarbonprice calculator, as well as national information program available to councils, schools, faith groups, business groups and other organisations. World Environment Day 2011, Sunday 5th June
World Environment Day Celebrations in the Kiama Municipality for 2011 were extremely well attended by the community. On the day the Kiama Community Garden was open with garden tours, Council's plant give away, composting information, vegetable BBQ, mosaics workshop and the presentation of the school scarecrow competition by special guest Costa Georgiadis from SBS TVs 'Costa's Garden Odyssey'.
Also included in the celebrations was a Sustainability Expo organised by local climate care group Kiama Future Care, with seminars on a diverse range of topics including Backyard Aquaponics, Sustainable Food, Living Sustainably and Biodiversity in your Backyard. It was estimated that 1200 people passed through the expo and garden on the day.
The Illawarra Natural Resource Management Action Plan
The Illawarra Natural Resource Management Plan Reference Group has prepared the Illawarra NRM Action Plan to respond to the natural resource management challenges and priorities for the region. It translates the CMA's Catchment Action Plan (CAP) targets for the whole Southern Rivers region to the local Illawarra level and outlines how targets will be achieved.
